Mini-documentary Territories of Planning
The mini-documentary Territories of Planning arose from the extension project “Territorial Planning in Brazil: trajectory and challenges”, coordinated by Professor Luciana Travassos.
Territorial Planning is a professional field that became more complex throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, requiring from those who work in it a broad base of knowledge. Despite this, institutionally, in Brazil, this activity has remained legally restricted to architects and in some cases, civil engineers or economists, a fact that implies and is implied by academic training. In 2013, the Federal University of ABC approved an unprecedented course in the country, the Bachelor’s Degree in Territorial Planning, BPT, aiming at a training of interdisciplinary nature, which allows the articulation of several areas of knowledge such as: economic sciences, social sciences, geography, public administration, urban and regional planning, among others. The very creation of the BPT opens the discussion of the field in the country and its differences with many other countries that already have similar undergraduate courses. This project aims to bring light to this discussion, broadening the debate around the construction of knowledge and action for the construction and consolidation of a broader field of territorial planning.

The publication is a production of the Group for Monitoring and Environmental Governance Studies (GovAmb) based at the Institute of Energy and Environment (IEE/USP), and the Territorial Planning Laboratory, based at the Federal University of ABC, both linked to the FAPESP Thematic Project 2015/03804-9 “Environmental Governance of the Macrometropole Paulista in the face of Climate Variability – MacroAmb”, which is part of the FAPESP Global Climate Change Programme.
Interviews on Territorial Planning
The project, coordinated by Prof. Dr. Luciana Travassos (BPT / PGT UFABC) and with the participation of Prof. Silvana Zioni and the undergraduate student Bruna Fernandes, started from the record of testimonials from several Brazilian planners and researchers building a portrait of the construction of the various territories of the planning field in recent decades.
Besides the mini-documentary, available above, a series with several interviews were also made available, with: Wilson Cano, Robert Pechman, Heloisa Costa, Carlos Brandão, Jeroen Klink, Ricardo Abramovay, Tania Bacelar, Roberto Monte-Mór, Ermínia Maricato and Arilson Favareto.
